MAYOR ÖMER GÜNEL SIGNED THE 'MUNICIPALISTS' CLIMATE AND ENERGY AGREEMENT'

Kuşadası Municipality became the first municipality in Aydın to sign the 'European Union Mayors Climate and Energy Agreement', which was accepted by 35 local governments in Turkey and 10 thousand 731 in Europe. With the contract, Kuşadası Municipality will actively support the EU's goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the world by 40 percent. It will also work to reduce the effects of climate change and become a city that adapts to climate change.

Kuşadası Municipality signed the European Union Mayors' Climate and Energy Agreement, which was put into effect by the European Commission and supports sustainable energy policies. Kuşadası Municipality, which is the first municipality in Aydın to sign the contract, will reduce carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions in the region it is responsible for by 2030 by at least 40 percent and will work to ensure improved energy efficiency and increased use of renewable energy resources. Thanks to the contract, Kuşadası Municipality will also be able to apply for municipalities' EU climate and energy-related grant programs worth up to 300 thousand Euros.

Kuşadası Mayor Ömer Günel stated that they signed a very important contract and said, “Today, global warming caused by human-induced activities is causing devastating effects on the climate. The fact that greenhouse gas emissions continue to increase on a global scale causes climate changes. This situation poses a risk for plant and animal ecosystems, especially for humans. "Taking part in this platform will provide significant benefits to us in the projects we will develop in the fight against global warming," he said.
