KUŞADASI MUNICIPALITY ISSUES IMPORTANT CALL FOR “ENVIRONMENTAL CLEANLINESS”
Officials from Kuşadası Municipality have highlighted that the town’s population will begin to rise rapidly as the tourist season approaches, and have urged residents to strictly adhere to the designated waste collection times to ensure the area remains clean.
In Kuşadası, Turkey’s tourism capital, a ‘waste collection time’ scheme was introduced last year to ensure a cleaner and more hygienic environment. Introduced to put an end to the visual and odour pollution caused by household waste, the scheme saw residents begin to place their rubbish in bins between 07.30 and 09.00 in the morning and 19.30 and 21.00 in the evening. Thanks to this scheme, which also involves administrative penalties for individuals and businesses failing to comply with the designated waste collection times, Kuşadası has achieved successful results in environmental cleanliness within a short period.
The Kuşadası Municipality’s Department of Cleaning Services has also issued a call to residents, visitors coming to the district on holiday, and businesses to adhere to rubbish collection times ahead of the upcoming tourist season. The appeal, which highlighted that Kuşadası’s population rises to over 1 million, particularly during the summer months, stated that the initiative is of great importance for the sustainable management of waste and the protection of public health.
“WE MUST ALL TAKE RESPONSIBILITY”
Hakan Bayrak, Head of Cleaning Services at Kuşadası Municipality, stated that they are continuing their work with the aim of creating a cleaner city, saying;
“Our long-term goal is to adapt the ‘container-free city’ model, which is implemented in European countries, to Kuşadası. This initiative also contributes to the preservation of the urban environment. We must all take responsibility together for a cleaner, more liveable Kuşadası.”
