KUŞADASI WELCOMED LIBRARY WEEK WITH A FULL PROGRAMME OF EVENTS
Kuşadası Municipality organised events across the town aimed at fostering a love of books and encouraging reading habits among both children and adults to mark ‘Library Week.’ The events, which attracted a great deal of interest, once again highlighted the fact that libraries are an indispensable part of community life.
Kuşadası has begun hosting several events to mark Library Week, which is celebrated between 30 March and 5 April. The venues for these events, organised with the aim of promoting a culture of reading in the town, include the SEYAKMER Digital and Children’s Library, established by Kuşadası Municipality, the Library and Book Café located at the Güler Aydın Süzgeç Social Facilities in İkiçeşmelik District, the Yaşar Efeoğlu Library and İkinci Bahar Centre in Davutlar District.
CHILDREN DESIGNED THEIR OWN BOOKMARKS
As part of Library Week, the SEYAKMER Digital and Children’s Library was brimming with the joy of its young visitors. Hosting pupils from Mavi Ada Montessori Nursery School, TOBB Nursery School and İstek Schools’ primary schools, SEYAKMER opened the doors to the magical world of books for the children. Visiting the library in groups, the pupils set off on a journey of discovery amongst the shelves, getting to know new books. During the workshop organised as part of the event, the children designed and painted bookmarks.
STORIES COME TO LIFE AT THE LIBRARY AND BOOK CAFÉ
Storytelling events for children were held at the Library and Book Café located within the Güler Aydın Süzgeç Social Facilities in İkiçeşmelik, and at the Yaşar Efeoğlu Library in Davutlar. During the event, the children watched and listened with great interest as stories were projected onto a screen. Staff also explained to the children the rules which must be followed in libraries.
THEY SOCIALISED BY READING BOOKS
The Second Spring Centre, which opened its doors in Davutlar for pensioners, was another stop on the Library Week celebrations. In keeping with the spirit and significance of the week, adults gathered to enjoy books in a calm and peaceful setting. Participants read works they had chosen from the library’s extensive collection and enjoyed the opportunity to socialise.
