628 KILOGRAMS OF SOLID WASTE REMOVED FROM THE SEA IN KUŞADASI

A seabed cleaning was carried out in Kuşadası by the Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change with the support of Kuşadası Municipality and AKUT volunteers within the scope of ‘June 5 World Environment Day’. In the work which lasted approximately 2 hours, the teams removed 628 kilograms of solid waste from the sea.
Coast Guard Command divers, Gendarmerie Environmental Protection teams, AKUT Kuşadası volunteers and Kuşadası Municipality Cleaning Works Department personnel participated in the seabed cleaning operation carried out in front of Güvercianda Castle breakwater. In the cleaning operation which lasted approximately 2 hours, a total of 628 kilograms of waste, including scrap barrels, plastic canisters and tires, were removed from the sea by the divers. The waste was loaded onto the Kuşadası Municipality Alo WateTaxi truck and taken to the cleaning works site to be disposed of.
Head of Kuşadası Municipality Cleaning Works Department Hakan Bayrak said;
“We also have the opportunity to observe the amount of waste coming out of the sea during the seabed cleaning events traditionally held every year. We have to protect and keep our seas and bays clean in order to leave a cleaner environment for future generations. We invite everyone living in Kuşadası to be more sensitive.”
