The name of the city of Pygela was first encountered in the famous historian Strabon's book "Geographika", which is about the geography of ancient Anatolia. According to the belief in the time of Strabo, it is the region where the soldiers of the famous commander Agamemnon, who was infected with a disease in his buttocks at the end of the Trojan War, were advised by some soothsayers that they could be cured by being treated in this region. Thereupon, Agamemnon and his soldiers stayed here for a while, were treated, and founded an ancient city. The name "Pyge", meaning hip in the ancient Greek language, was given to the city and it began to be known as Pygela.

During the excavations carried out between 1974 and 1978, B.C. It has been determined that there was an uninterrupted settlement from the Early Bronze Age, dating back to 3000-2500 BC, until the Middle Byzantine period. This shows us that there was a settlement in Pygela long before the Trojan wars. As we know, attributing the foundation of a city to a king is a statement made to glorify that king. All of these increase the importance of Pygela even more.
The ancient city of Pygela, together with its port, still remains a secret and a comprehensive excavation needs to be carried out in the region. The archaeological findings found here are not just the remains of villas, three-naved churches and aqueducts. Many more structures are waiting to be excavated and unearthed.

You should discover the magical environment of Pygela, known as the first health city in human history!
