MAYOR ÖMER GÜNEL JOINED THE ENERGY CITIES ASSOCIATION MEETING

Kuşadası Mayor and Energy Cities Association Board Member Ömer Günel attended the meeting of the Energy Cities Association held in Erzurum. Renewable energy sources and Turkey's energy policies were discussed at the meeting.

Energy Cities Association held its first council meeting of the year in Erzurum with the participation of member municipalities. Kuşadası Mayor Ömer Günel, who was re-elected as a board member of the Energy Cities Association in April 2021, also attended the two-day meeting.

THE AGENDA WAS GREEN ENERGY

Together with Osman Zolan, the President of the Union and also the Mayor of Denizli Metropolitan Municipality, Afyonkarahisar Mayor Mehmet Zeybek, Kütahya Mayor Alim Işık, Erzurum Aziziye Mayor Muhammed Cevdet Orhan, Ankara Güdül Mayor Muzaffer Yalçın, Balıkesir Sındırgı Mayor Ekrem Yavaş and Kırşehir Çiçekdağı. The issue of renewable energy resources was discussed at the meeting where Mayor Hasan Hakanoğlu and council members also attended. At the meeting, where the importance of protecting the environment and nature was emphasized, the issue of what could be done to prevent Turkey from being dependent on foreign sources of energy and to use green energy resources more widely was discussed.

“ALL RISKS MUST BE CALCULATED IN THE FIELD OF RENEWABLE ENERGY”

Making a statement about the meeting, Kuşadası Mayor Ömer Günel emphasized the importance of sustainability, stating that energy needs are one of the most important needs in Turkey, as in the rest of the world. Underlining that Turkey has a very important potential in the field of renewable energy resources, Mayor Ömer Günel said, “Of course, we need energy. However, this need should not lead to the destruction of our environment, nature and agricultural lands. Access to healthy food, water and air, as well as energy, is of vital importance for both us and future generations. At this point, possible risks regarding the use of renewable energy resources should be calculated very well, the opportunities offered by science and technology should be used to the fullest in the right locations, and the use of environmentally friendly energy sources called green energy should be encouraged. "In this sense, the Energy Cities Association meeting was very productive and opened our horizons," he said.
