MAYOR ÖMER GÜNEL: "RENT SCHEME IS OVER IN KUŞADASI"

Kuşadası Mayor Ömer Günel said in the regular municipal council in September, “The rent system is over in Kuşadası. The era of putting money into the pockets of certain oligarchs is over. "The property of Kuşadası belongs to the people of Kuşadası," he said. Pointing out that Balıkçı Kahvesi will be renovated and brought to the city in a short time after the construction bans end on October 15, Mayor Ömer Günel said, “No one can gain profit by using fishermen as weapons. "We stand behind the signatures we signed," he said.

Mayor Ömer Günel, who made a statement about Fishermen's Coffeehouse, which came to the fore in the public opinion of Kuşadası with unrealistic claims, stated that he will work with Kuşadası Fisheries Cooperative on 26 August 2022 regarding Fishermen's Coffeehouse, which is located on the upper floor of Kuşadası Fish Market and is owned by Kuşadası Municipality. He reminded that the union protocol was signed. Mayor Ömer Günel said, "I have seen people go back on their word, but this is the first time I have seen someone go back on their signature, saying they deceived me by mistake or deceit."

“FISHING TRADERS ARE VALUABLE TO US”

Stating that the process started with the lease agreement signed between Kuşadası Municipality and Kuşadası Fisheries Cooperative having expired and the Cooperative using subtenants, Mayor Ömer Günel stated that they requested the eviction of Balıkçı Kahvesi and said: "The Cooperative rejected the eviction process and filed a lawsuit. We won the local court. Of course, our negotiations with the Cooperative continued during this period. Our fishermen are valuable to us. Their satisfaction and peace are important to us. In this process, we signed a cooperation protocol with the Cooperative President. By protocol, we allocated 152 square meters of space to the cooperative at the end of construction. Apart from the protocol, we also promised to renew the boatyard, fishing shelter and warehouses. While we were preparing the tender to start construction at the end of the summer, we wanted to renew the warehouses in order not to waste the summer season. When we asked the cooperative to empty the warehouses for renovation works, we received the answer 'we do not want'. Then, they requested the cancellation of the protocol due to error and fraud. The court rejected the precautionary decision.”

“WE STAND BEHIND THE PROTOCUL”

Pointing out that they stand behind the protocol they made, President Ömer Günel said, “We will do this whether the Cooperative wants or not. In every election period, someone comes up with such scenarios and uses fishermen. But now the rent system is over. The era of putting money into the pockets of certain oligarchs is over. The property of Kuşadası belongs to the people of Kuşadası. What have they done to fishermen over the years? No one can use fishermen as a weapon and gain profit. They are being deceived and they don't realize it. "Shame on those who deceive," he said. Underlining that there is no delay or lie about Balıkçı Kahvesi, Mayor Ömer Günel said that the tradesmen are being used for politics. Noting that the renovation cost of Balıkçı Kahvesi is 10 million TL, Mayor Ömer Günel said, “With what money will the cooperative do this? "We will start construction on October 15 and bring it to the city, which is a sparkling place just like Gazibeğendi Facilities and Günbatımı Cafe," he said.

“THE PROBLEM WILL BE SOLVED BY FOLLOWING THE PROTOCOL”

Özgür Atacan, President of the Aydın Region Fisheries Cooperatives Association, who attended the assembly meeting, stated that it was not right for the cooperatives and municipalities to confront each other and said, "Problems can be solved with common sense and initiative." Pointing out that aquaculture cooperatives are organizations experiencing financial difficulties, Özgür Atacan said, “Some cooperatives are trying to solve these problems by moving away from the compromise dimension. We also informed the Ministry and the Governorship. "Within a few days, we will have solved this problem by adhering to the protocol," he said.
