The 23rd of April National Sovereignty and Children's Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Kuşadası. The program, which began with the laying of a wreath at the Atatürk Monument by the District National Education Head Şerafettin Yapıcı, featured colourful performances by students which were greatly appreciated.
The 106th anniversary of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) and the 23rd April National Sovereignty and Children's Day, a gift from Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk to all the children of the world, were celebrated with enthusiasm in Kuşadası. The program began at 09:50 AM with the laying of a wreath at the Atatürk Monument by the District National Education Head Şerafettin Yapıcı, and continued with an official ceremony.
The official ceremony was attended by Kuşadası District Governor İbrahim Keklik, Kuşadası Acting Mayor Tahsin Demirtaş, administrative officials serving in the city, representatives of political parties and civil society organizations, and many residents of Kuşadası. Following a moment of silence for the teachers and students who lost their lives in the recent school attacks in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş, and the singing of the National Anthem, District Governor İbrahim Keklik and Acting Mayor Tahsin Demirtaş congratulated the students who came from schools across the city to attend the ceremony. The folk dances and various performances presented by the students and schools were applauded by the protocol members, while the bicycle-skateboard-graffiti show performed by the students of Pakize Kamil Çağlayan Middle School received great appreciation.
"THE ONLY OFFICIAL HOLIDAY IN THE WORLD DEDICATED TO CHILDREN"
Speaking at the ceremony, District National Education Head Şerafettin Yapıcı said;
“April 23, 1920, is the date when our beloved nation declared its will for independence to the whole world, and when it was confirmed that national sovereignty unconditionally belongs to the nation. The fact that this meaningful day is dedicated to children is the strongest sign of the value and trust placed in children, who are the guarantee of our future. When Mustafa Kemal Atatürk dedicated this meaningful day to you, our dear children, he was actually saying, 'My greatest work is you; the future will rise on your shoulders.' April 23 is not just a date, but also the name of a belief. It is the most beautiful expression of trusting children and looking to the future with hope. The fact that it is the only holiday in the world dedicated to children further deepens this meaning.”
